Training Children in Water Safety

Children Living within Kigungu Entebbe Division Wakiso District, from various primary schools St JOSEPH Preparatory nursery and Primary School, Kigungu Primary Schools, Crown Land Primary School St Kizito Primary Schools, Sacred Heart Bugonga Primary and Two Boys from Promise Secondary School and one out of School Boy who is lame approached Royal Life Saving Society Uganda on 11 April to teach them how to swim headed by their leaders Kafuko Celestine, Elisa John, and mwanga Kenneth Emmanuel Mewedo(Lame).

One of the members of the group Owori Robert had lost the elder sister in December 2012 when two people drowned where one was a boy and second his sister who was in senior four to drowning   and stated that he wanted to know the basic skill to avoid such from Happening.

Royal Life Saving started to teach the children on May 25th 2013 and on top of teaching them Basic swimming skills they are also taught basic water Safety skills with aim reducing drowning among the members.

Since the swimming Pools are expensive for the children and Royal Life Saving does not have equipment and Infrastructure the children are taught in the Lake and on Saturday and Sunday when they are not in school free of Charge. The average number of children per day is around twenty; however there are still no girls in the group.

Initially only five of the Children knew some little swimming but as of now all the children are advancing in swimming, more children are interested but they are yet to get consent from their parents.
